As a high school summer student, Melissa contributed to the earliest work in the Edwards Lab investigating the endocannabinoid system. She primarily measured alterations in endocannabinoid-system protein expression in the periaqueductal grey during morphine withdrawal. Melissa presented this work at LSUHSC's Summer Research Internship Poster Day, where she won the Best Poster Award in the High School category.
